Because, like it or not, Singlish, not English, is what we grow up speaking. Its what we hear in our homes growing up, its what we hear when we go out, its what we hear in schools and informally in the workplace, and its what we become comfortable with from a young age. We think in it, its lexis and syntax are what come most naturally to us, it becomes the default medium for expression. Dedicated to all of my Singlish friends who are proud of it, and friends who do not understand the idea of Singlish. This is the best article to read ;) x
