Because they were EXPECTING it! Psalms 62:5 - My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him. At my daddy’s 80th birthday celebration last year one of my older sisters told an anecdote concerning Daddy and my two younger sisters. Every day when Daddy got off work from Pullman Standard we would wait at the door for him. He would hug and kiss us, his beard tickling our young faces. Additionally Daddy would give my two younger sisters a sandwich left over from his lunch and they would share it. One day when Daddy got home he did his normal routine including handing over his leftover sandwich. He then told my mother he wanted to eat right away because he was famished. My mother asked him why he didn’t eat the sandwich she gave him for lunch. He replied, “You only fixed one sandwich. I couldn’t eat it because I knew the babies would be disappointed if I didn’t bring them a sandwich.” Now we had plenty of food at home, but to my two younger sisters the leftover sandwich was the tastiest morsel of the day. Yes, he worked a full 8 hour shift without his sandwich because he had two babies at home EXPECTING IT! God is moved by our level of expectation. When we expect great things God has to do great things because He loves us. If my sisters weren’t expecting it, Daddy may have done the sensible thing and eaten the sandwich for himself. But their expectation made him ignore his own hunger and save the leftover sandwich for them. Whatever the situation today God is big enough to handle and close enough to do it.
