Becoming a bit of an Anglophile I suppose, but one more - TopicsExpress

Becoming a bit of an Anglophile I suppose, but one more observation from the UK. We watched and listened to the Prime Minister, David Cameron, make his case to the Parliament on why he is proposing to commit British military forces to fight ISIS. He was actually there, on the floor with the MPs, explaining his reasoning, addressing questions and concerns, and asking for feedback. How novel. Those of you familiar with the Japanese A3 problem definition and logic/solution process would admire his approach. We started by defining the need of his country, and arrived at consensus with the Parliament after some legitimate give and take. He then outlined current condition and state of affairs and the future or ideal state and again, reached a consensus with the governing body. The debate was true debate: question, answer, challenge, action taking, compromise - seemed to be all about what was in best interests of Britain and very little about upcoming elections or party cat-fighting. He talked through options, concerns, what could go wrong, risks, mitigations, and actually modified his position slightly during the course of the interchange as valid new data and points were brought forward. Needless to say I was all together impressed. We need to take notice and learn from this. Once again, their long term perspective shines through versus our new world 2-4 year focus.
