Becoming a disciple of Jesus “And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.” Luke 14: 27 The beginning of discipleship is coming out of the world to identify with Christ, the Son of the living God. What it means is that you are no longer who you used to be, rather, you become radically changed, facing the cross while casting the world behind. Discipleship involves self-denial. If you can’t deny yourself you can’t walk with Christ. Learning the way of the Master, doing what the Master commanded and teaching others is the root of discipleship. What would my Master have me do or say is a fundamental question a disciple should always ask. What about carrying the cross on daily basis? It is a vital aspect of discipleship. The cross signifies identification with and commitment to the Lord. A disciple must be yoked, knitted and bonded to every jot of his words. Isn’t it burdensome? His grace will carry you through. If it is possible for people to train in the art of Medicine, Law, Engineering, Banking, Music, and other disciplines, which qualify them to be practitioners of these careers, it is possible to be disciplined in the things of Christ. Be open-minded and ready for the training. A lazy man can’t be a disciple indeed. Be ready. My Father, I desire to be a disciple of Jesus Christ. Empower me to train others to be like Jesus. Let the earth be filled with the word of life, in Jesus name. Amen
