Bedell: So sad to hear of Mickey Rooneys passing. After hearing the Morning Crew playing a few clips today, heres the full interview I did with Mickey, and his wife Jan, in September 2010. They were in town for a show at Casino Nova Scotia, and even though virtually all of my interviews are with musicians, I couldnt pass up a chance to talk with such a legend, with a career spanning 80 years, and a living link to the golden age of Hollywood. He was married to Ava Gardner, for Gods sake! We recorded the interview just before my show on a Friday afternoon, and I was up against the clock. I had heard plenty of stories about Mickey being an absolute bastard during interviews, so I was going to tread lightly. Turns out...we got along great, and Jan was a huge help in keeping things on the rails. I had one eye on the clock for the entire time, but once he got rolling on a topic, I had a hard time stopping him. I havent listened to this entire thing before, and have a feeling Id need a stiff drink if Im going to attempt it now. Certainly could have used one before the interview.
