Been a busy week ..three road trips 200 plus miles in one day road trip. San Diego to LAX and a run out to LA getting ready for trip # 3 ...dang not much time in shop to spend working on little Betty...reminds me congrats to Betty McCardle Canedy, Pat tells me baby arrived and all are well ...great to hear...arrival on new life into this world is truly a wondrous thing...still can remember well the day Sean was born...the dawn of a new life is always the very best day ever... :-)... Got all loaded up for trip 3 always good to go with Sean navigating...Watching him [Sean] yesterday reminded me of myself on my very first road trip ever...from Sioux City out west... first stop Glen Canyon Bridge project in Page Az....I rode out old Route 66 back then ... Road with my Uncle George ...Dads big brother...I remember Uncle George teaching me how to navigate using the radio...all along Route 66 with map in hand ear tuned to the radio... charting our progress... Uncle George was driving Dads old farm truck a 1948 GMC...with all our possessions...just like a Grapes of Wrath moment but not quite so bad... On that trip Mom was up front in the 54 Chevy with big brother and Sis ...Big brother had broken his arm just before we left Iowa....And just because it had happen on one last bike run of my suggestion...my fault ...Whyd you take your brother down there...he never would have gone ...and now look...So I was banished to make the trip the Old rough ride in GMC 48 stake bed... but hey I was with my Uncle George and didnt care how many time I bounced out of the seat it was to be great fun... ;-) Uncle George had been a bombardier / navigator in the war... and just before we left he installed an old tube radio in the 48.... that old radio with its big round Dial in the center...great fun dialing in ,tuning , straining to hear local channels...really cool how it would glow softly in the night... As the engine would rev creating a pull the old generator how it would give the radio a glow... bright to dim almost as if it was alive ...sending out her information for..Me listing closely to find a strong signal get a radio call sign plot our progress... And all the while Uncle George telling me stories of stations he would dial in on during the war and how this had aided him to... always know right where he was at.. You always need to know right where you are at, Uncle George wold say...Important information priority 1 he would say......cant move forward and cant learn all you need to know of the past... Cause you dont know where you are on your course.... Yep pretty important stuff Great fun that first road trip was...I learned a lot of life lessons didnt quite know it back then but none the less I was served well... Big brothers arm healed a few months later and we were back as a team cooking up hairbrained ideas landing us in hot water during our Page Az years.. .Well gotta go... Sean has all ready... Have a great weekend all ...Take a road trip and enjoy right where you are...:-)
