Been stewing all day long; Today would have been my sons (and several of his friends) first day of kindergarten. We would have met his teacher, seen his classroom and experienced that awesome and special moment that every parent has when their baby becomes a student. Theyve all been looking forward to this new adventure for some time now, and instead... I find myself having to explain to my son that he cant go to school, and that I dont know when he can. As a parent, I truly feel cheated... robbed of a milestone that we will NOT get back. Whats going down right now is unprecedented. Never before has there been such an educational stonewall. Never before has there been such arrogance on the part of our provincial government. Hell, to my basic knowledge, never before has there been a case where ANY provincial government ignored the rulings of the supreme court of Canada!! What kind of message is being sent here? Better yet, what kind of example is the provincial government showing our young people?! Seeing as two supreme court rulings were challenged and ignored (at our expense), are they not blatantly both telling AND showing us that they will happily do and dismantle whatever they see fit and ignore any authority that opposes? And from a moral standpoint! What is the government telling us about their feelings towards all of us? That they have no problem lying to our faces, blaming innocent parties for their own actions, or taking advantage of our tax dollars to pamper their own lives? (Christy Clark using taxpayers money to pay her credit card bills.. look it up) I truly believe that at very least, that every last one of them consider the education and future of ALL our public school children irrelevant and expendable, and nobody more-so than Christy Clark. Unless something drastic happens here soon, Im very much afraid of what is to come. I most emphatically DID NOT vote for this, and I dont think anyone who voted liberal did, either. So what gives? The media blackout is making things much more difficult to understand... so truly, I urge you all to do your research. Its easy to get pissed off and tell the teachers to suck it up, take a cut, accept a deal already, etc. But before you place the blame, please.. do your research. I dont mean read whats put in front of you by mass media, or take the word of Joe Blow teacher hater. I mean go ask questions. Read articles from multiple sources. Even better, go talk to one of the picketing teachers in your area... despite what you may believe, NOBODY wants school to resume more than they do. Youll get a good, honest answer from someone who actually CARES about our children. Whats happening right here, right now, is nothing short of criminal, and as always, the teachers are at the dodgy end of the stick. My most heartfelt and impassioned support goes out to the teachers of BC. Hang in there.
