Been talking to Gary Shaw about dogs and heat as he does do dog - TopicsExpress

Been talking to Gary Shaw about dogs and heat as he does do dog "sled" racing.... (Yep exactly he chose the perfect country for that :-)). For this sled racing, he likes the temperature to be below 15 and the hum below 50%. This obvious to prevent heat stress. There are some indexes in use for that like the: Temperature Humidity Index (THI) Temperature Humidity Index (THI) is a measure that has been used since the early 1990s. It accounts for the combined effects of environmental temperature and relative humidity, and is a useful and easy way to assess the risk of heat stress. Dairy Heat Load Index (DHLI) The Dairy Heat Load Index (DHLI) is a new way to quantify the risk of heat stress in grazing dairy cattle under Australian conditions. It has been developed by researchers at the University of Queensland with support from The University of Melbourne. abstechservices/?pages=calc4 shows an online tool. We do calculate the THI, HLI and HLIwith average wind. (well Brian Hamilton does). Ok so if you are still with me as this is a long post... I assume that different animals have different tolerances. Does anybody know/has/or know where I can find the different THI for different animals. I think it would be nice if we add the THI, HLI ratings and dangers to the Dayboro Weather site. Especially for horses. Perhaps some University of Queensland Dayboro Veterinary Surgery vet or other vets know? Thanks H.
