Before GRAVITY, we saw a preview for a forthcoming Disney movie about P. L. Travers (Emma Thompson) and Walt Disney (Tom Hanks) and creative control of MARY POPPINS and (per the preview) how Travers was so hard to deal with, and Disney had to charm and beguile and win her over to make the movie MARY POPPINS. SAVING MR. BANKS—or, more properly given the title actually shown onscreen, DISNEYS SAVING MR. BANKS (which reads on oh so many levels, doesnt it?)—suggests a future Disney movie in, oh, three decades to come, BURYING MR. KIRBY, or more properly DISNEYS BURYING MR. KIRBY, in which some future-current charmer star plays some as-yet-nameless Disney corporate surrogate, demonstrating how good and nice and proper it is that Jack Kirby and Kirbys heirs are buried for the well-being of corporate coffers and pop cultural wealth, and how Jack was really OK with that all along, since it was Disney that ultimately saw to the post-mortem interment for all eternity.
