Before I had Emily, while I was pursuing a degree in elementary education, I spent any extra money I had on supplies for my future classroom. My weakness was childrens books. Since Emily slightly altered my career plan, the boxes of brand new books have sat in my closet for a decade. Ive wanted to do something with them for a long time, but just hadnt gotten around to it. This week, my girl Michelle mentioned that her daughters 1st grade was collecting books to donate to Just 1 Book, an organization started by an Orlando 15 year old that provides books to children who otherwise may not have any. It felt so great today to hand Michelle boxes and bags full of more than 260 childrens books from my collection. (And I still kept two full boxes for Madi, too. Apparently I had a lot of books. 😂) Although I havent been able to have a classroom of my own, at least I can still teach little minds across the country by fostering a love for reading and lifelong learning! ❤️
