Before I start talking about Star Trek: The Original Series it - TopicsExpress

Before I start talking about Star Trek: The Original Series it should be stated that the only real exposure Ive had to the Star Trek universe was the 2009 movie and the sequel Star Trek Into Darkness. OK so Ive only watched 1 episode so farand Im hooked! Yes the show is from the 60s so effects and everything arent spectacular and can get a bit cheesy but they managed to really clean it up for Blu-Ray. If I hadnt known it was from the 60s I wouldve guessed the 80s. Thats how good it looks on Blu-Ray. It looks 20 years younger lol There are several things that jump out at me that I enjoy from the show. First I think the new movies nailed the casting. Watching this show I really dont need any introduction as to who these characters are because the personalities from the new movies are an exact match to the original series cast. The only character whos really different is Kirk. Hes not as much of a hot head in the show as Chris Pine portrays him as in the 2009 movie... but to be fair the show doesnt really tell you how long hes been captain so maybe Shaters Kirk was a hot head before we meet him here on the show. Hopefully the next Trek film sees Kirk mature a bit. Another thing I love is how the characters get more screen time. In a 2 hour movie it can be hard to give equal time to the entire cast but on a tv show you can put some characters front and center in one episode and give others time to shine in the next episode. One of the things I dont like isnt really a huge issue its just a weird thing of mine. I like to watch episodes in chronological order. Well with the box sets thats hard to do. First off the show has 2 pilots. The first one was rejected by NBC and the second one wasnt the first episode that aired it was like the 4th or 5th episode or something and the unaired pilot is only on the season 3 set. Another thing is that the episodes on the discs arent according to the stardate or when they were produced. Theyre in the order they aired on NBC.. Which is hardly ever in chronological order.. its not a big issue as the stories seem to be contained to that particular episode but its weird to me. I dont know why CBS and Paramount couldnt have put them in their proper order.. or at least given us the option to watch it in chronological order. In the end I love the show and am now officially a Star Trek fan beyond more than just the alternate universe movies! #StarTrek
