Before Sam Smith rose to become the global megastar sensation he is right now, I had been digging his magical voice and bought the tickets to the Chicago stop of his pre-fame first American tour. The concert was rescheduled because he had to take on the opportunity to put on his debut U.S. performance on Saturday Night Live. I felt betrayed as a loyal fan and decided not to support whom I thought was a sell-out. As my immature judgement wore off, and that the radio has been playing his massive hits non-stop a few months later, I started appreciating his music again, but not in a I-am-paying-to-see-him kind of way. Surprisingly, I just learned that his opening act for his sold-out concert is George Ezra, an up-and-coming British talent that refreshes your ears with a soulful voice, I decided that I would like to go see this concert as a BOGO. Lucky enough, the sold-out show released some last minute GA tickets when I looked up the concert. Boy Oh Boy, do I feel glad that I went. While Georges performance was short yet impressive, Sam Smith blew my little mind away for a few solid miles! Hearing him sing live, one will not doubt the fact that his 5 Grammy nominations are way well deserved. The pitch-perfect singer gave the audience a real treat to the ears with seemingly easy effort hitting a large vocal range. The last time I heard a live performance with crystal clear notes that penetrate your ears in a smooth yet convincing manner was when Michael Bubles concert at United Center culminated with his a cappella version of A song for you WITHOUT a microphone.
