Before anyone feels the need to inform me that there are BAD ones - TopicsExpress

Before anyone feels the need to inform me that there are BAD ones out there; I am aware of that! Ive got a few officer friends that would do anything to uphold the oath theyve taken & I just hate it that some make them all look bad. Just last week an officer had stopped by my office taking a break, he knew its the 1st of the month & in my line of work that means a very large bank deposit. There are a few officers that will sit outside my office or at a distance watching & then follow me me until Ive safely made it to the bank. Anyway, not long ago he was called to a nearby family dollar for a shoplifter. The shoplifter/young man was carrying a crying baby & diaper bag & was caught stealing infant Tylenol. The story was: 15 year old boy was babysitting his 9 week old little brother while single mom was at WORK, the infant had a fever & so teen boy called moms job. Her supervisor doesnt allow calls until break time so the teen explained that the baby felt very warm & he needs to ask mom what to do. Supervisor tells teen give him some Tylenol & Ill tell her you called on her break. The young teen knew moms break was a few hours away so he walked with his newborn brother to get the medication needed, he had no money & he was caught shoplifting. The officer could have arrested the teen & had him processed at juvenile hall, sent the baby into the CPS system & foster care until they were able to get the mom (that was at work to support her 2 boys) through the court system.. The officer instead paid for the Tylenol as well as a thermometer & allowed the teen and infant into the air conditioned car to calm down. The teen explained that he knew stealing was wrong but he didnt know what else to do. He was crying & the officer was able to reach mom after talking to the supervisor (that doesnt allow calls until break time). This teen boy had gone to a funeral a week prior, the funeral of a 4 month old baby/cousin that passed away from pneumonia (what started as a high fever); while telling the officer he knew he was wrong to steal he said Id be ok going to jail for stealing as long as the baby got the medicine & didnt die The officer took the children home & checked on them until mom was home from work, the next day the officer couldnt stop thinking of the family so he & his wife went for a visit & gave mom some resources to help her find child care for the baby while shes working. The family is not on any gov assistance & was trying to raise her kids by working & not relying on the system to do it for her. Moral of the story; before you judge all cops based on what the media shows you remember there are more good than bad & they walk out the door each day not knowing if theyll go home to their families.. To protect us!
