Before everyone gets so indignant about the dropboxes, I would ask - TopicsExpress

Before everyone gets so indignant about the dropboxes, I would ask that you go to the group Building PAWS RC No-Kill Animal Shelter of Rutherford County NC and see the many conversations about these dropboxes and what is trying to be done about them. At least the animals pulled each morning can be placed in a run or cage, photographed and networked to be saved. There are volunteers there EVERY DAY to do this. When they were closed on prior occasions, animals did not have a chance. People tied animals to the fence (who were attacked by junkyard dogs -- it is beside the city dump, locals, etc.); litters were placed in plastic containers with the lids sealed and were dead when people opened them; dogs were thrown over the tall fence with barbed wire into a yard. They had no chance. At least they have a chance with the boxes. There are photos of the inside of the boxes, with a 26 or so drop. There is food and water. ONce the window is closed, no one can add other animals. There may be many in the box if one owner surrenders all of his animals at once. There is a video by WLOS-13 in Asheville -- who came and inspected them. Before you want to help the animals, you need to know the facts. Closing them means certain death. If you have money to build more spaces or improve the situation, please send it along and well see that it gets to the proper authorities to change this situation. Rutherford County had two mills close in this economy. Owner surrenders are happening every day. We, as a group, are trying to stop that by offering a food pantry so when people have to choose to feed their family or feed their animals, we can help them. The State Dept. of Agriculture inspected this again last month. They decided not to close it. Our animal control facility has 15 dog runs, 8 cat cages and one feral one for feral cats and all those above the 8 cages can hold. We get up to 50 animals a week. Sometimes there are 5 dogs in a run. The county has no money to build a shelter. Thats why we have volunteers, fosters, rescues, boarders, adopters and others who are working tirelessly to save these animals. For you who do not know our situation to try to fix it without any of the facts based on a photo, you are the ones who will take the lives of the animals who get a chance now due to the dropboxes. Please read the entire group of posts about the dropboxes. Then decide if you want them to die before they get to the shelter runs/cages; or they can have that chance that the dropbox gives them every day. We have a dedicated community that came together in August 2013 to make it a priority to adopt the No-Kill Equation. We have a T/N/R group, low-cost spay and neuter, education and seeking more fosters every day to help stop the killing at this high-kill shelter. I guess if you get the dropboxes closed, there will be less killed by Animal Control because they will never make it to the shelter to be counted. I hope you can live with that. Now, please educate yourself on this particular facility by reading the posts on Building PAWS RC No-Kill Animal Shelter - or better yet - look at our volunteers page Saving the dogs and cats of Rutherford County, NC and see those animals pulled from the dropboxes and photographed and listed online every day. We could use more networking, rescuing, adopting, and fostering of these very animals that make it to each run or cage. Thats how you can stop the killing of animals in Rutherford County, NC.
