Before the gloaming of alphabetical concordance and number - TopicsExpress

Before the gloaming of alphabetical concordance and number systems, communication and record keeping must have been a puzzling mystery. When the human mind recognized the importance of MEMORY,it had to invent a systematic way of recording it and keeping track of its changes.Familiar symbols had to be created to signify a particular entity in the minds of the pioneers of writing. This symbolism may be what spread all over other civilisations and slowly morphed into the many complex forms of alphabet and number systems that are nowadays specifically enjoyed and preferred in different parts of the world as tools of effective communication and storage of data. The following article was an imaginative attempt at walking back into time to attempt a re-construction of what may be termed,in the language of the writer, ‘the first forms of writing.’NONE of this is close to ABSOLUTE truth……nor is it anywhere close to the writings of the first ancients. It obliges the reader, therefore, to bear in mind the implications of taking such a piece of work with the seriousness of a doctoral thesis. Its influence is meant to be imaginative, not FACTUAL.The writer highly apologizes in advance for the deliberate deviation from convention throughout the entire process of formulating this information, and the inconviniences it may cause as a result of conflicting outlooks between the REAL and the IMAGINED world. It is my sincere hope that the boundary will be clearly demarcated between the two realms to avoid confusion and misunderstanding. The time of release may not correspond with the exact time some of the ideas were formulated.Their relevance prevails, nonetheless,as far as the flow of thoughts is concerned. How far we are from the origins of writing and mathematics is beyond my ken,but I suspect we are still footsteps away from the doorstep. How far in time are we from the BEGINNING anyway? How well is our civilisation synchronized with the minds off the past?Is our perception of the alphabet and numerical system the same as that of its originators? Why are most of us obsessed with number ONE and the notion of being FIRST?Does being number one make one superior to being number nine? What is the connection between the common alphabet and Roman numbers?Do letters, numbers and words hide more than meets the common eye? What is hidden? How well is it uncommon to the common eye?Who has the cipher? Why are most of us fixed on words ,numbers and their hier-archy?IAre hier-o-glyphs the first IDEAS of hier-archy?What role did Egyptian hier-o-glyphs play in bringing us this far?How much do we owe our modern technology to them?Is their essence lost to us modern users of the alphabet and numbers? How broad was their thinking and visualization techniques compared to ours? Can we travel back into the mind of an ancient Egyptian caveman and try to carve some symbols that resemble any of our modern letters and numbers? How natural were their sources…….and does nature offer us any clues to what these sources might have been? How espoused are we to vertical thinking?Has the bureaucracy of pedagogy slowly erased with time our innate capacity to imagine ourselves beyond numbers and alphabets? Is growth a VERTICAL only process? Is vertical elevation the ONLY WAY to symbolize improvement or success?Has the advancement of phonic pedagogy and phonology stifled our capacity to audiolize, visualize numbers and their possible symbolism and evolution?Have we been overfed the same diet of phallocentric paradigms to the point of intuitional malnutrition?Do phallocentric paradigms support or allow for lateral and cyclic thought patterns in any way?Is change best effected laterally and spirally? Is preservation and conservation best achieved cyclically? Can we comfortably merge vertical, lateral and cyclic paradigms into something more functional without losing the flavor of each in the other, and still manage to stay objective in our ways of thinking and emoting? How long ago was the planet Venus first called Hesperus? How about when an Asian farmer entirely depended on hewn hessian and fustian before learning how to artificially milk a freshian? What date was IDES in the ancient roman calendar? Why IDES and not any other date? Was Friday 13th,December 2013 such a date? How does that reflect on Kenya celebrating its jubilee birthday a day before such a date?Where does that put the country as a whole as far as luck is concerned in the political and economic spheres? How much of our modern financial and annual festivals are borrowed from the Julian calendar? How many of us instantly associate the word IONIC with Architecture? Can the mind of the 21st century achieve manumission from the entrenched fixation on the illusive hier-archy created by alphabet and numerical orders? Are numbers and alphabet letters cryptograms? Can their symbolic ciphers be re-claimed from careful studies of Egyptian hier-o-glyphs and Assyrian cuneiform? How different are our numerical and Alphabet systems from Chinese Ideograms?Does the nature of Ideographs naturally stimulate both auditory and visual channels in the brain, therefore putting the brain into more neural activity at a single glance?Do numbers even have sounds and colors?Does Ideographical presentation of data and information imply a need for superior ciphers to understand the cryptogrammatic messages they convey to their users? Is this fact what elevates the Chinese and Indian languages and their users to manifesting ‘super intelligence’ capabilities at a very early age compared to other language systems?Does the complexity of number and alphabet systems imply an advanced civilization? After our current alphabet and numerical systems become obsolete, what then? Are we basically going to peruse the glyphs and language patterns of the Sumerian and Babylonian days for a ‘new’ system of interaction with symbols?Where are the old fogeys to un-fog our perspective into the forgotten forge where numerology and alphabets foregather?Anyone to illume the opacity?......... The writings that follow this introduction may be full of divergent patterns of thought. It Is an exercise in visual techniques and rotational imagination as much as it is an astrological treatise. The reader may find it useful to pretend ignorance of any conventional knowledge gathered concerning the twelve signs and their numerical order and entirely plunge into the fathomless depths of a ‘pioneer imagination.’What the writer was trying to achieve was to construct from the symbol of each NUMBER,a symbolism that dates as far back as the first form of written images…….with the aim of hopefully exposing a deeper aspect of each zodiac sign, particularly the ASCENDANT,that may be entirely FALSE,but interesting to CONSIDER.The uniqueness of unfolding these images may require rotating these numbers at different angles and degrees…..sometimes joining their separate parts together in an attempt to match the resultant image with a description of its symbol. Some may be too obvious while others may require careful scrutiny to decipher. It is more playful than derivative.I care less whether I happen to be right or way off the mark……such is the attitude it deserves!!! How well does each number symbolically represent its sign?Does the number as a separate symbol offer us any visual clues to the varied natures of the sign it stands for without any changes in positional order?Do the ascendants, sun and moon signs in particular manifest any of the traits that are to be gleaned from a playful but objective interaction with each number as a descriptive IDEA of its corresponding sign?Every ordinary flute plays a note an octave lower than a Picollo’s………what shall our Picollo be in this case? All biases are kindly asked to be put on the weighing scale of mentality and sentiment.Neither side should tilt the scale too low to warrant the throwing of punches.Serious jokes are still JOKES anyway.ENJOY.-INTRODUCING.
