Beginning to wonder if it was a bad idea putting my Iboga Nights documentary into a local film festival for its world premiere? Quite honestly, I think it can be difficult to be taken seriously in your own backyard and personal opinions of ones character will inevitably come into play (once a dirty junkie always a dirty junkie!!). One screening at a midweek/mid-afternoon timeslot is a slap in the face when I got 2 evening screenings at another film fest in California (Still got a near sell-out in Glasgow despite that!). I know the issues arent everyones cup of tea but they are worth debating nonetheless. If New Scientist publication are sponsoring future screenings in London then that is surely all the proof I need to show Iboga Nights has the necessary gravitas to be taken as a serious piece of documentary filmmaking. Im not full of anger and venom about all this but have learnt an important lesson: No world premieres here again! DGS x
