Being a Hoosier is a novelty here. That said, a lady asked me why cornfields are so scary, why they are so often the setting used in scary movies. My answer? Once you find yourself, young enough to be much shorter than the tall corn stalks, disoriented in the middle of a cornfield, there is probably nothing more claustrophobic or anxiety producing for a child. I think horror movies attempt to recreate that sensation. Also, the corn stalks absorb sound so any calls or screams you make in a field are, for the most part, muffled. And heaven forbid you get lost during harvest season and whoever is on the harvester doesnt see you there in the middle of the field . . . Noodle on that for a minute.
