Being a pilot has taught me a lot. For example, there’s this thing in the aviation industry called “Just Culture”, which encourages pilots, air traffic controllers and other aviation safety professionals to report their own mistakes in an environment based on trust, rather than blame. It acknowledges that a large proportion of errors are honest – the kinds of slips and mistakes that even the best people can make. I believe the business world has much to learn from this non-punitive approach. If you think about it, most families do too. You want to raise your kids to feel they can come home and tell you when they do something wrong, rather than finding it out from the teacher every time. It’s very basic stuff when you think about it, but it’s often the basic stuff that’s missed in the business world. -Christoph Mueller- Future CEO of MAS Just culture.. thats what its called.. some people in the office should learn this term and apply it instead of blaming someone entirely on a fault which makes it judgmental, idiotic and personal. People make mistakes. Not every one who misses a flight is bad.. not everyone who goes on sick leave is dishonest.. not everyone who did not answer a call for that mere one hour when they are on stby is doing it on purpose.. When ure judgmental towards your staff, ure in the wrong place behind the wrong desk..
