Belated TBT - 60s Denver Rock concerts... My first years at Red Rocks. Took these pics Monday at the Red Rocks Museum of Rock History. Saw my first concerts there during my college years in 1968 & 1969 while living and working those summers in Denver. Saw Peter, Paul & Mary, Henri Mancini and Aretha Franklin in 1968 and Dionne Warwick and Joan Baez in 1969...best I can recall. In 1971 Jethro Tull performed and a riot ensued resulting in closing the park to rock concerts for 5 years. I did not attend that concert. Also attended Barry Feys Denver Pop Festival, a three-night musical event in June 1969 that culminated with the final appearance of the Jimi Hendrix Experience. The festival, which drew a crowd of 62,000 at Mile High Stadium over three nights, featured seventeen acts, among them, Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention, Three Dog Night, Poco, Iron Butterfly, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Joe Cocker, Tim Buckley and the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Astonishingly, you could see all of those acts for a mere six dollars per night or fifteen dollars for all three nights. Denver Police maced/tear gassed gate crashers...which drifted into the crowd and MY eyes!.
