My name is Rise and Im about to find out exactly what those words mean. I live in a conquered world. Ruins are everywhere and we are forced to scrounge for our survival. I am a giving person by nature and have earned a good reputation in the living space. Like most men, however, I have a hard time expressing how I truly feel. You see that beautiful woman over there? Thats Beline, and Ive loved her ever since we were children. Can I just go over to her and tell her what my heart wants me to? Of course not, just the thought terrifies me. I have time though, right? We always have time to tell the people we love how we feel. Do you see that man over there, the one in the uniform? Thats Morceff and hes the sheriff of our sector. He is arresting a husband and father, effectively tearing a family apart for the will of the king, cursed be his name. If it were any other man destroying a family I would intervene and fight for that family. Morceff is not just another man. He is a man who is serving the king and is protected by his magic. No one can kill a sheriff and I know this just like every other peasant here. My mentor never really liked the word magic. I don’t think he believes in it, but I do. Ive seen what happens to men who defy the king. My life is about to change. I am going to be torn away from the woman I love. I am about to begin an impossible journey, one that will take me over the giant walls of the sector into an unknown place. The rules for survival are going to change and if I dont adapt quickly I will die. I am about to become a wanted man of the king himself, for a crime that minutes ago I would have thought was impossible. I am about to kill a sheriff. I will travel the sectors, a crime punishable by the worst kind of death. I will be chased by servants of the king the entire way, and I will face new threats among the sectors. Every moral strength I have will be tested to its limit. Every muscle I have will be beaten and sore. Every bit of determination I have will be put on display to either succeed or fail. I will not give up. I will find my love even if it means I have to tear down each sector ruled by the king. I am about to become the kings greatest threat. What would you do to rescue your love?
