Below is the text of a letter addressed to the VC requesting him not to evict Dr GN Saibabas mother, wife and his daughter from their current residence in the Wardens House of Gwyer Hall (which was allotted to Dr GN Saibaba by the former VC considering his special circumstances). I request colleagues who would like to endorse the request to mention their name and college in the comments below. To The Vice Chancellor University of Delhi Delhi 110007. December 27, 2014. Dear Professor Singh, We, the undersigned teachers of the University, are writing to you to express our grave concern about the plight of our colleague Dr G N Saibaba and his family with regard to the accommodation provided to them by the University. We request you not to dislodge his family till there is a resolution in Dr G N Saibaba’s case, and solicit your immediate intervention in the matter. As you know, Dr GN Saibaba, a teacher at the Ram Lal Anand College, was picked up by the Maharashtra Police on May 9th, 2014 in a mysterious manner given that Dr Saibaba is a person with 90% disability. We all know about Saibaba’s struggles to find an affordable disabled friendly accommodation and about the kind gesture extended by the University in providing him with an accommodation in the Warden’s Flat of Gwyer Hall after modifying it to suit his special needs. However, in a rather strange turn of events, the University authorities were trying to evict Saibaba even though there was no change to the conditions under which he was allotted an accommodation in the first place. It is extremely unfortunate that the University instead of taking a more sympathetic view and allowing Saibaba’s family comprising his aged mother, his wife and his minor daughter to stay in the allotted house till there is a resolution in Dr GN Saibaba’s case, has been issuing notices to Saibaba’s wife. We learn that his family is living under constant apprehension of being thrown out of their house any moment. Given that Dr Saibaba is under suspension and his family is struggling hard to make both ends meet as they are forced to live on subsistence allowance, it will be impossible for them to find another accommodation. Dr Saibaba’s absence will make it even more difficult to vacate the current accommodation and move into another one. In these circumstances, we request you not to take any action to evict Dr Saibaba’s family from their current accommodation, and to let them continue to live there till there is a resolution in his case. We hope you will take a sympathetic and humanitarian view. We look forward to a positive response from you. Yours truly, 1. Karen Gabriel (St. Stephen’s College) 2. P K Vijayan (Hindu College) 3. Jenny Rowena (Miranda House) 4. Biswajit Mohanty (Deshbandhu College) 5. Rakesh Ranjan (SRCC) 6. S A R Geelani (Zakir Husain Delhi College) 7. Hany Babu (Department of English)
