Houston Institute for Culture, a 501(c)(3) educational and charitable non-profit organization, had planned the event to create opportunities for local and regional artists and community organizations, and to raise awareness and funds for programs that serve at-risk youth. According to the Houston Institute of Culture, We are not to able to proceed with a major event this year, so we will instead concentrate on continuing our existing programs, and look to building large-scale funding events in the future. Some of the programs of the Houston Institute of Culture include Houston Cool and Girls Excel. Houston Cool involves inner city youth in planting and learning the benefits of trees, including cleaner air and cooler temperatures. The program uses a childs natural love of trees as the centerpiece for learning about environmental science, urban planning and community improvement. Girls Excel promotes girls and young women in learning and pursuing math and science. The Houston Institute for Culture is also working to establish a Houston Museum of Culture.
