Below the Surface Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me. Psalm 42:7 To God, it must be the most beautiful music, the sweetest incense. I speak of the sound of repentance. There is nothing like the roar of hundreds of people weeping and wailing over their lostness. One man said it sounded eerie. My response to him was, “You are listening to music that brings a smile to the face of God.” It’s the deepness of God calling to the deepness of man. It’s the Spirit of God reaching down past the facade into the innermost recesses of our hearts. Below the surface of every man, woman and child lies the true meaning of their existence. Just as the face of a clock can be exquisite, an incitement to the eye, an artistic masterpiece—the inside of the clock tells the true story. The sign outside may say “Fine Dining.” The building may be gorgeous and the table set with sterling silver and expensive china, but it’s the skill inside the kitchen that really matters. Likewise, the outside of man may appear beautiful, his countenance may declare a surety and confidence in life, but deep down, in the part no one sees, lies the truth. This is the place that God loves to go. The Spirit of God searches our hearts. He created us. He knows every secret place. He knows what’s going on below the surface. Always remember, Jesus Christ spends most of His time below the surface. Man sees the outward, but God sees the heart. 2 Samuel 17; 2 Corinthians 10 Ezekiel 24; Psalms 72 - Steve Hill
