Benjamin Promise wrote thus about Fasholas Independence Day speech about the real heros and heroine of Ebola and the many struggles of Nigeria in response to ElRufais post about the speech. Please read his beautiful mind... Outstanding speech of motivation, inspiration and re-appraisal by Fashola. He is truly a leader of quality standing. I see a few folks mixing up some situation here: In Lagos, Fashola needed an army of doctors and nurses to arrest d situation and he swiftly commandeered those IN THE EMPLOY OF THE STATE GOVERNMENT to get d job done. The key point here is, the workers he immediately summoned were within his control. In Borno, Yobe and Adamawa States, the governors need a different army -the security forces (military and police) who dont take statutory orders from d state government! They are centrally controlled state institutions. It is on record that frantic appeals from Borno to FG on the kidnap began pouring in on day II, but sadly none was honoured. Citizens and leaders began gathering relevant information and variously alerted security agents, but the only reply they got was we re duely processing every intelligence for appropriate action! So, what was the difference? Lagos needed an army (medical) which it was in control of, and Borno needed an army (security forces) which it was not in control of! Moreover, the ratified total state of emergency placed the states security authority structure directly at the discretion of the Commander-in-Chief. So, how can we be comparing the two? If Fashola had set up a fact finding committee to investigate how Sawyer entered the state, and set up another one to go and beg the FG (that was at the moment fighting its own medical team indefinitely), to help tackle it, what would have happened? As for El-Rufai, all hes doing is only re-echoing what has been said severally, to let more people know (which is typical and expected of a politician). Its not abnormal, but if you dont like him, you should leave his page. Lets address the REAL ISSUES: President Jonathan is a good & simple man, and many of us like him (you cant stop me from liking him). But having seen how he has fared in governance and leadership, he may not have the wits and special qualities of managing critical situations like some people are known to have (e.g Fashola and many other Nigerians), but that doesnt make him less an individual or less a nice man. We all have different strong points. For example I can factually say if Fashola had been on GEJs seat, he would have handled things differently(better, I dare to say). That, doesnt reduce GEJ, It just means were all different and gifted differently. So, it remains for the electorate to choose quality men to lead us by their varied special God given giftings and capabilities, not because they are better than person C or B but because they are better suited for the job! You dont call your tailor to come treat your son because your tailor is nicer or older in age than your doctor - even if your doctor is not from your tribe! Thats the understanding we Nigerians need now. As a person, I like GEJ more than any of the other contestants on parade. But for the office, respectfully, I will not vote for him again in consonance with the widespread perception of the overstretched forcibly quietened Nigerian masses. Someone else can do the job better even if hes not my ethnic kinsman. That doesnt reduce GEJ or make South-South less important. Its just understanding the Law of Gifted Differences for our National Development! May God bless our Nation.
