(Bere-18:1-33) (Yesh-33:17-34:12) (Luq-8:40-56) -what is going on with Abraham kindness? -what is going on with the cakes and milk and the butter and the calf? -what is the connection between these 2 passages? -what are the practical aspects here? -Why did YHVH appear to them? -What is the overall message? 1. one thing we see in this passage is Avrahams kindness which is shows his heart as we see here, now in Lev-2:12-As an offering of firstfruits you may bring them to the LORD, but they shall not be offered on the altar for a pleasing aroma. Now the reason why I can say this is because well lets look at the word grain offering in hebrew minchah which if we look in the hebrew at Bere-4:3-As an offering of firstfruits you may bring them to the LORD, but they shall not be offered on the altar for a pleasing aroma, the offering is Minchah. so it doesnt have to be bread but it can be meat and veges, so that fits the context here, so he had a willing heart to offer this to YHVH. 2. Now one thing we see here is interesting because the things he gave for the meal teaches us something: A. Ashcake- Shmot-12:39- And they baked unleavened cakes of the dough that they had brought out of Egypt, for it was not leavened, because they were thrust out of Egypt and could not wait, nor had they prepared any provisions for themselves. Now the reason why I tied to this passage is because of context, and order in chapter-19- he judges Sodom and Amorah, now here judges Mitzrayim. Plus he does it does through the firstborn- Shmot-12:12-For I will pass through the land of Egypt that night, and I will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and on all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments: I am the LORD. Now why is that? it is because Israel is his firstborn as we see in shmot-4:22-23-Then you shall say to Pharaoh, Thus says the LORD, Israel is my firstborn son, and I say to you, Let my son go that he may serve me. If you refuse to let him go, behold, I will kill your firstborn son. So in talmud it says Isaac was born on passover because of this, which is a bit of a stretch but I can see why they that. B. baqar-ox- noun- baqar-for ploughing Shmot-12:32-Take your flocks and your herds, as you have said, and be gone, and bless me also! This is the same passage, so what we see is there are parralels in these 2 passages. c. Chalav- milk- Chelev- forbiddon fat- Shmot-34:25-28-You shall not offer the blood of my sacrifice with anything leavened, or let the sacrifice of the Feast of the Passover remain until the morning. The best of the firstfruits of your ground you shall bring to the house of the LORD your God. You shall not boil a young goat in its mothers milk. And the LORD said to Moses, Write these words, for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel. So he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights. He neither ate bread nor drank water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments. So we see the the tie in factors are milk, Idolatry, and passover, so what we see is YHVH is judging Idolatry. d. chemah-cheese or butter- chomah- wall, or walled- Yesh-7:15-16-He shall eat curds and honey when he knows how to refuse the evil and choose the good. For before the boy knows how to refuse the evil and choose the good, the land whose two kings you dread will be deserted. So what we see is the Mashiach will curds and honey before he knows to do good, and refuse bad. Now some may say that where is the honey in this passage well we know that he is the word as in John-1:1-In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Now in Tehillim-119:103- How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! This is also a tie into the virgin birth. Now the lesson is we perform our works to YHVH, as an express our devition to YHVH, we see this in Romans-12:1-I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. In everything we do we must do it out of faith or it is sin. 3. Now the tie in between these 2 passages are circumcision and Isaac, basically after 8 days of being born a male must be circumcised as we see in Bere- 17:12-He who is eight days old among you shall be circumcised. Every male throughout your generations, whether born in your house or bought with your money from any foreigner who is not of your offspring. Plus we that there is a word pun that is a continuation on their sons name in Bere-17:17-Then Abraham fell on his face and laughed and said to himself, Shall a child be born to a man who is a hundred years old? Shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child? Now you have sarah laughing because she disbelieves like Avraham in the earlier passage. So YHVH said his name will be Yitzchakh- he will laugh. So what this tells me is YHVH has a sense of humor, he is showinng himself as sauvereighn. 4. The practical aspects here are: A. you have to believe YHVH and his works B. when perform your works to YHVH, you do it with a willing heart C. no Idolatry D. you can intercede for others E. you can have meat and milk together 5. He did to show that YHVH does humble himself to become human like we should to serve him as we see in Yochan-1:14-And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. 6. The overall message is that we will be redeemed by YHVHs servant as we see in Isa-61:1-2-The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; to proclaim the year of the LORDs favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn; Haphtarah This shows that YHVH has a year of recompense for those he devoted to destruction, and a day of reward for those who do his word. Apostolic The thread(s) that ties these 2 together is well YHVH is that of relationship which requires faith and since we are the bride and he is the husband then we understand what the torah is about it is a relationship with the creator of the universe, now it comes as a result of him saving us.
