Berlin: The Changing Face of Quality Basics The retail marketplace in Germany has been evolving ever since Primark raised its game by trying to respond to its customers’ aspirations for high end store design. They have certainly gone on to set a new trend. Primark has been joined by another international retailer with extremely high standards when it comes to in-store and visual merchandising solutions. Uniqlo, the Japanese quality basics specialist, opened a flagship store in Berlin at the beginning of April this year. The Japanese agency, Wonderwall, designed the store and ensured they included the expected signature features from the brand, including an impactful rotating mannequin display in the shop front and a triple-height atrium entrance, decorated with animated LED screens. The theme continues on the upper floors, where the brand has made the most of floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the space with natural light. These also provide another opportunity to re-iterate the brand’s disciplined approach to visual merchandising, using blocks of colour and repeat styling to create an uncomplicated but established trading look. ow.ly/znUhr
