Bertha Tainter Hall (top left photo) became the first official - TopicsExpress

Bertha Tainter Hall (top left photo) became the first official dormitory on campus in 1906. When Senator Stout bought the site from Andrew Tainter, he promised that any building ever constructed there would be named after Bertha. The Bertha Tainter Annex (top right photo) began its life as a barn, but was remodeled for housing by Senator Stout. This earned it the nickname Barneys Castle among students. Tainter Hall is now connected on either side to Jeter Hall and Callahan Hall. You can read more about the origins of the buildings names at uwstout.edu/housing/oncampus/jtc_history.cfm.
