Besides being upbeat, smiling a lot, riding her bicycle, and being younger than the other Council members, RK is popular because shes never offended any voter because she abstains, is absent, or simply waffling on any controversial legislation where her vote would have made a difference. Shes pro public transit, legalization of weed, pro-gun control, pro solar power, and supportive of lesbian and gay issues. Basically, shes for Oakland apple pie and mother-hood. So what has she accomplished in her years on City Council that show shes capable of running a city with a 1 Billion dollar budget and 3000 employees plus independent contractors? Sponsored legislation for establishing industrial marijuana growing? That was a loser from the get-go considering what everyone but our city council knew about the Feds. Then there was some plans to reduce our terrible chronic unemployment rate by training people to be bike mechanics and solar panel installers. That went nowhere quick. Has RK ever managed more employees than her own office staff? Had full overall responsibility for proposing and managed a budget over a a few hundred thou? Compared to our current mayor, RK looks great. That aint saying much.
