Best way to POLISH ROSEWOOD - dhlhomefurnishings.co.uk Penetrating Oils Rosewood is rarely coated or sealed with top coats such as lacquer or varnish. Penetrating oils are typically used to promote the soft feel that musicians prefer. Penetrating oils allow the wood to breathe and stay pliable, feeding the wood what it needs to maintain its active feel -- as if the wood were still alive. If the instrument neck begins to dry out, you can add more penetrating oil at any time. Lemon oil is one of the preferred oils used on rosewood, with linseed oil typically second choice. Polishing Rosewood doesnt need much polishing. By the time it is installed on the necks of instruments, it has already been sanded to a fine polished surface, much finer than typical woodworking projects. The applications of oils to the neck with a cotton cloth simply maintain the existing polished surface. Lightly rubbing the wood until it looks wet is usually enough to bring luster back to the wood. If the luster doesnt come back after one application, some light polishing can be done, but its rarely needed.
