Better Life for Egypt’s Official Statement on Events in Egypt: We deeply regret and grieve for all loss of life, whether from Muslim Brotherhood members, police officers, army forces, or civilians. We recognize the complicated nature of the situation in Egypt and hold both the Muslim Brotherhood members and the police force responsible for putting civilians in the line of fire that has resulted in hundreds of needless deaths of Egyptian citizens. We particularly decry the continuous incitements to violence and martyrdom by the Muslim Brotherhood. We renounce all the vicious attacks against Christian churches and institutions, and we demand a full investigation into those attacks. We seek justice against the perpetrators. We understand that police departments have in some cases been attacked and suffered losses but we are still gravely concerned with the lack of police presence throughout Egypt in the areas where Churches and Christian institutions continue to be attacked. We are also gravely concerned with the lack of police presence despite clear threats to the well-being of Egyptian citizens. In some parts of Egypt, Christian businesses and homes are being "marked" for future attack. Despite the urgency of the situation, police forces have not responded to any calls. We demand that political and administrative reforms be made to the interior ministry and the police department in the near future. In particular, we call for an end to the practice of excessive use of force and torture towards citizens by the police department in addition to implementing necessary reforms to help address security issues faced by Egyptians during this transition period and to ensure that all Egyptians feel safe in their homes. We are eagerly waiting for the situation in Egypt to improve and for safety and stability to return to communities in Egypt. As always, we are committed to utilizing our energy and resources to help foster an Egyptian society defined by all forms of tolerance and social, political & religious equality.
