Between 9/13 & 9/14 Platte Valley SAMS Team was put on stand-by at the Boulder Airport for assignment and was deployed out at 04:00 on Friday, September 13th with North Metro Fire Rescue with the help from the Department of Parks & Wildlife to Milliken and Evans, where they searched the mobile home parks and made nine rescues. After return to the District around 16:00 on Friday, the Team received word that three people were stranded in a house on County Road 56 in Kersey that was surrounded by fast running water. Department of Parks & Wildlife, North Metro Fire along with SAMS Team all agreed that the best outcome for this rescue was to postpone rescue efforts, with the people sheltering in place, until first light for everyone’s safety. All parties were on scene first thing Saturday in the am to resume rescue efforts. A Blackhawk helicopter was on stand-by in the field next to the scene in case water rescue efforts were not going to work. With lookout members upstream keeping watch for any large debris that could be dangerous and members and one manned jet ski downstream in case rescue efforts were comprised they began with boat one slowing making their way to the house having to navigate barbed wire and fences not seen above water. Boat two stayed close to shore to be ready to assist if anything went wrong. After two successful passes to and from the house all people were brought to safety without any problems
