Beyond Mars A permanent human colony on Mars? That’s the plan - TopicsExpress

Beyond Mars A permanent human colony on Mars? That’s the plan of Mars One, a non-profit organization led by Dutch entrepreneur Bas Lansdorp. His goal is to establish residents on the red planet by the year 2023, less than 10 years from now. Lansdorp first announced plans for the Mars One mission in May 2012. Some call the project “extremely ambitious and costly,” with a price tag of $6 billion for the first four travelers. If you think most people are rolling their eyes at the concept, there are more than 30,000 Americans who’ve already paid a $38 application fee to snag one of the 40 openings! A carefully structured plan has been laid out that includes building a replica settlement, launching a specialized communication satellite, narrowing the astronaut selection, sending a supply mission to Mars, and more. Interestingly, one of the challenges to the mission is growing food. Residents will be vegetarians by necessity. Colonization on another planet has been a theme in science fiction for many years. The moon was once considered a potential candidate, but the conditions on Mars are more “hospitable.” It has more availability of frozen ground water, a more substantial gravity than the moon, and a thin atmosphere. With a greater concern for the future of planet Earth, creating a space colony has gained more interest. Actually, for thousands of years, the Bible has spoken of a colossal city in space that will be inhabited by humans and extra-terrestrial beings. In the apocalyptic writings of John, he reveals, “Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God” (Revelation 21:2). The Bible reveals that when our world finally collapses and life ceases to exist, it is at this time that the Creator will remove those who have chosen to follow God to a heavenly city. For 1,000 years these people will be transported from the earth, which sits in desolation, after which time this “space colony” comes down from heaven and establishes this world as the new center of the universe. Scripture actually outlines details of this mission, describing the dimensions of this permanent settlement and how life will be sustained. Reservations are now being placed for this project! There are no application fees. Those who wish to partake of this indestructible community may put in their individual requests. The selection process is currently underway. There are no limitations on the number of residents, and all may receive this free gift. The incredible beauty and perfection of this colony seems beyond human capabilities to describe. “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him” (1 Corinthians 2:9).
