Bhupesh Doda, Rakshak Intern from IIM Shillong working with Airports Economic Regulatory Authority of India observes the following about Indias Civil Aviation sector: “Emergence of Low cost carriers, higher household incomes, strong economic growth, increased FDI inflows, tourist inflow, cargo movements and supporting government policies has transformed Indian aviation sector. Growth in domestic and international passenger traffic is high in the country and the trend will continue at least for a decade. Cargo movement is also growing at a significant rate. As per the Report of Working Group on Civil Aviation Sector by National Transport Development Policy Committee, Indian aviation market will reach third position in the global ranking in terms of size of the industry next only to USA and China by 2020. I believe that in order to materialize this positive trends in terms of profits it is important to improve our airport infrastructure facility which is the weakest link in the chain through construction of new airports, expansion and modernization of existing airports, construction of secondary airports, linking tier II and tier III cities, improvement in connecting infrastructure like metro, road, sea link and by better airspace management.”
