Bible Blessings Tough Love Jeremiah 30:11 “I am with you and will save you,’ declares the LORD. ‘Though I completely destroy all the nations among which I scatter you, I will not completely destroy you. I will discipline you but only with justice; I will not let you go entirely unpunished’ ” Jeremiah 30:11 (NIV). When reading the Book of Jeremiah many people tend to focus on the death, destruction, and visions of violence and vindication instead of the mercy, grace, and hope that clearly shines through this beautiful book. Jeremiah 30:11 gives us a glimpse into the amazing and complex character of God. In it, God assures His people that He is with them, that He will save them. He also gently reminds them that life’s difficulties are sometimes a type of loving discipline. After all, what kind of father never disciplines His children? What kind of a father allows his children to live a life of evil and discontentment? God is a God of love, a God Who only wants good things for His children; and, like a good earthly father, He sometimes disciplines us in order to mold us into mature, loving individuals. For me, this verse shouts mercy, screams hope, and promises that God will do whatever it takes to ensure that upon His return His people will be standing by His side—even if that means He must sometimes punish us along the way. ~Randy & Trena Reed
