BibleEtcMarch1092014 I am committed daily to reading daily from the Old Testament; also from the New; something from the Qur’an; and a hadith. And, I am posting daily comments on Facebook. OT from a Bible Survey I had put together, with twelve sessions for a Muslim/Christian group. Turning now to the Kethuvim or Writings Proverbs 1:8-14. Your father’s instruction and your mother’s teaching are like a garland for your head and pendants for your neck. Don’t be with those who lie in evil to steal from others. Those who live in such a way will come to an end. NT from Session Six of the Twelve Week Survey Mark 12:1-17. A parable about workers in a vineyard, who first kill the servants of the owner, and then the son of the owner. Jesus tells this parable against the religious leaders who will not follow him. Is it OK to pay taxes to Caesar? Whose image is on the coins? Caesar’s? So give Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and give to God what belongs to God. Quran 5:8-11. Don’t let hatred of others lead to injustices. Blessings on those who have faith and do good works. Those who do not have faith and do evil works, for them the fire awaits. Verse 11: You who believe, remember God’s blessing on you when a certain people were about to raise their hands against you and He restrained them. Be mindful of God: let the believers put their trust in Him. According to The Message of THE QUR’AN by Muhammad Asad, this is a general reference to the weakness of the believers at the beginning of the Quranic revelation. Hadith. Sahih Al-Bukhari Book 3. Chapter 21. Verse 83 page 95-96. A hadith about three people who have a double blessings. A Christian or a Jew who becomes as Muslim; a slave who fulfills his duties to Allah and his master; a master who manumits a slave and then marries her. Apparently slavery in Arabic lands was not based on race, as was slavery in America. Blood sugar today 94. Blood pressure after exercise 163/83. My weight has dropped to 237#. I don’t want to lose more than 2# a week, so I made need to slightly increase my caloric intake. I am now 53# under my gross maximum of 290#, and there still remain 57# of fat and blubber to get my goal of 180#. I have accomplished 48% of goal, and am well aware that 52% of the goal remains to be accomplished. Yesterday afternoon was a wonderful day. I put some debris from the garage up in the street side garbage container, and added some branches and twigs to the burn pile. It felt really great to be outside! Exercise is Royal Canadian Air Force online. I follow 5BX for men; there is XBX for women. I now wear 44” trousers, down from a high of 50”. No coffee during Lent; and also no nail biting, which is a struggle to keep. I will (on a reduced basis) resume coffee on Easter Day. I will plan NEVER to be a nail biter again. Today I address a Civitan club on interfaith associations in Gainesville, post Terry Jones.
