Big John WEATHER Summary & Discussion (Issued 3:00 pm Thursday November 6th, 2014) Here comes another cold front later today. Any rain? Probably not. Getting cold again? No “cooler” better describes the temperature change. Then what will happen? Gusty winds for the afternoon and that should be it. Several high resolution computer models are suggesting an isolated shower over inland areas, and that’s possible, but the chances are low. We’ll stay dry. So we play the “yo-yo” game again on the temperatures, and climatology repeats itself with our dry season continuing for several more weeks. The “big set-up” is changing with the changing seasons moving into winter. Tropical activity gets pushed closer to the Equator, and looses a lot of its punch. And colder air migrates farther and farther south. And it’s not just a “straight-line” in the migration, but waves of cold air with some warmer recovery before the next wave of cold air arrives. And there are signs that one of the biggest waves of cold air is on the way. A super typhoon in the Pacific driving northward is now changing the jet stream pattern over Alaska, opening the door to Arctic cold by the middle of next week. Weekend forecast lines up with some great fall weather: lows start in the 40s, highs in the 60s. And some warming into next week for Veteran’s Day Tuesday with highs in the 70s. Then we’ll worry about the possible threat of more cold. Runners forecast is GREAT for the Rock’n’Roll Weekend for the running events and all the festivities. We’ll be watching.
