Big Markets Planned For Nakuru Sub-Counties By Jackson Okata Wednesday 13 August 2014 In a bid to reduce congestion at the main markets in Nakuru town, the Nakuru County government is planning to build bigger markets in all sub-counties. Industrialization, trade and tourism executive Samuel Ndung’u said that the process has already been initiated with the first market nearing completion at Bahati. Speaking during a trade stakeholder’s forum in Nakuru town on Tuesday evening, the executive said that his docket was in the process of seeking donor funding to facilitate the initiative. “We are talking to some of our donors including the World Bank to finance this project” said Ndung’u. He said that the aim of the initiative was to open up trade in all sub-counties which will in turn increase the amount of revenue collected by the county government. “Many traders find it difficult transporting their goods to the main markets in Nakuru. This exposes them to middlemen and brokers who buy their products at very low prices occasioning them huge losses,” he added. The county minister called on the private sector to partner with the county government in all sectors of the economy, adding that the county’s growth is only possible if all stakeholders work together.
