Big Webberville to Howard Lane, Bastrop, US-TX Jun 7, 2014 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM Protocol: Traveling 9.0 mile(s) EPISODE 97: A Big Adventure After eight years of this survey you would think we had seen it all. Today reminded us there is plenty of adventure yet to come. The day started and ended with oddities and there were things in between. Starting the day one of our participants had forgotten their paddles and had to run home to get one. At the same time, as the rest of the group was shuttling cars they found a tree across the road to the take out. It took all hands and the cook to drag the tree off the road. When everyone reassembled in was 10:00 and we finally got on the river. To further the adventure a few of us got stuck behind a movie crew from Spiderwood Studios working on the highway. There was a few minute delay just when we were really needing some refreshment. The in between did produce a nice list of 53 species for early June. A couple of highlights include a family group of Osprey and a Green Kingfisher. We also found a couple of Yellow-crowned Night-herons, Prothonotary Warblers and of Tricolored Heron. We seemed to get lots of Yellow-billed Cuckoos. In the other critter department the morning was very snaky. We found four. Turtles were everywhere. Swallow-tailed butterflies and lots of Hackberry Emperors lead the list of butterflies. Dragonflies and Damselflies were plentiful and there was a huge hatch of Mayflies coming off the water. It is summer and we got a great crew out today to help enjoy the warm weather. We had nineteen people on the survey today. Terri Mitchel, Betsy, Linda williams, Pam Hohman, Elizabeth Sirico, Debbie Sharp, Joan Bishop, Peg Gavin, Rick Scadden, Stephen, Mackes, Jerry Lunow, Dennis Brenning, Bob West, John Barr, Chris Masey, Bobby Hughes, John Muller, Ron Armbruster were along with us. It was a fun day. ***************** Dont forget to like the Austin Bastrop River Corridor Partnership Facebook page.
