Big day on the beach today. I think I may walk every Sunday from now on. OUR FIRST GREEN NEST OF THE SEASON! She came out of the water and up the beach, did some kind of loop and swoop and some body pitting, heading essentially south along the vegetation. Then she turned east, deposited her eggs and excavated a big chunk of beach. The problem was, the spray was on three sides of the nest, making it tricky to locate the clutch. With 5 people looking and a thunderstorm looming, we found it pretty quickly. (Kudos to Becca Ski.) The lightning siren had just gone off at the Plantation, and Miss Stephanie Shankle was refusing to leave the beach. I had just made some comment about if she wanted to risk her life..., when Becca found it. :) The key to finding it was the crab holes. Science may not back up the theory, but anecdotal evidence exists: the clutch was right near a cluster of fresh crab holes.
