Tens of thousands of people are trying to make it home at this hour and roads are gridlocked. Traffic is at a standstill all over the area. In the Tuscaloosa area as well as across the Birmingham Metro area. Wrecks not being worked by most local jurisdictions unless there are injuries. If you are stuck on the road, it’s best not to abandon your vehicle. Take it slow and easy, think about what large hills are along your route and try to avoid them. Warming stations will be set up for stranded motorists this afternoon and tonight. A recent Tweet mentioned moving one mile in 90 minutes on Valleydale Road in Shelby County. If you are in a warm, safe place, stay there until the traffic abates. Cell phone networks are jammed, so be patient. The snow is over in places like Hamilton, Fayette, Jasper, Double Springs and Cullman. Roads are slippery in these areas, but generally not as snowpacked.
