Bill of Rights The Bill of Rights in the constitution are a forceful and prominent declaration of individual rights that cannot be abridged by any government action or legislative law. They are written in direct and bold statements. We, the people, cherish our individual God given freedoms, free of government interference and hereby build a wall to restrain the federal government from trampling on them by accident or design. Our personal rights are the inspiration and foundation of what makes a democracy work. They are the vital heart of our national life. We must have a government that respects our rights or we will slip down the slope to enslavement. The Bill of Rights through its structure sets forth to spell out in detail that the government can become the enemy and never has a right to intrude into the lives of its citizens without “clear and substantial” reasons that justify it. History through the millennia teaches us evil is always waiting at the door eager to enter. Tyranny is ever present lurking in the shadows where men drunk with power diligently look for any weakness and opening where they can pounce wrapped in the cloak of noble causes ever seeking greater power in the name of those causes. Some people search to selectively parse words and sentences in the constitution to claim justification for government actions that are outrageous. Nobel men of principal figure out how to get the job done without betrayal and trampling our rights. We need honorable men (and women) in government that honor our constitution and follow their oath to uphold and defend that highest law. We need people in legislative positions that will not conspire to make a law that subverts our constitution. We need people in administrative positions that will work hard to do their job without stretching statutes to the point of breaking the constitution. We need more honorable people working in government jobs that recognize when our fundamental laws are being broken they must step up to reveal the outrage and work to correct it. We have lost our nation when we sell out our most sacred constitutional rights defended honorably by our forefathers to be preserved for future generations , just so we can feel a little safer drinking our coffee at Starbucks. If we feel a little less safe at Starbucks because a terrorist can use our principles of liberty to get closer to us, that is part of the cost of liberty. Liberty has always been paid for with the price of blood. If the average citizen is not willing to risk their lives a little to live in liberty, we have lost our free and wonderful nation. An evil, much greater than the threat of a terrorist at Starbucks, will enslave us to a life of unimaginable terror, unless of course, you are the citizen wearing the proper uniform and showing the loyalty salute. If you have not learned from history to guard against such evil, you will be added as another chapter describing those oppressed under tyranny having lost all liberty. We do not know enough about Snowden to know if he is a righteous man or flawed. Many of histories heroes are not completely admirable. We do know that the information he provided to us, brings into the light evil actions hidden in secrecy that tramples our rights in ways that have only been seen in the most totalitarian and repressive governments in history. Those governments always spout noble reasons for egregious acts against innocents in the name of some greater good. When I listen to the hysterical comments by those calling for Snowden’s immediate capture to be silenced in some special prison, I wonder if they are fearful that he yet has information to reveal that will show programs with even greater violations of our rights. These domestic spying programs are supported by our political leaders from both parties. Those who have been found to have conspired with others to deliberately store in government computers extensive private personal information about innocent citizens without warrants drawn on “reasonable suspicion” of a crime should be removed from office and potentially charged with crimes against the constitution. This includes those who knew about it and took no action to report it or stop it.
