Biman welcomes HC permit for BJP rally Criticises tMC’s flouting of constitutional rights SILIGURI, 29 NOV: Criticizing the Trinamul Congress-led state government’s vindictive attitude to flout constitutional and democratic rights the Left Front chairman and CPI-M state secretary Mr Biman Bose said Calcutta High Court has upheld the democratic rights to organise rally following an appeal. Commenting on state government’s decision to not allow BJP’s national president Amit Shah’s rally in Kolkata Mr Biman Bose said: “The Trinamul Congress-led state government had also denied permission for us to hold meetings near Victoria House. Trinamul had opposed us. Despite the denial of permission we held meetings. But we never moved the court.” “Calcutta High Court has upheld the democratic rights by pronouncing its verdict on BJPs rally, scheduled to be held near Victoria House in Kolkata tomorrow, on certain conditions,” Mr Bose said. “It is vindictiveness of Trinamul Congress,” he said, adding, “Though the government had taken the oath to follow the Constitution, it had been flouting the Constitution.” Reacting to Trinamul Congress’s march by presenting Tollywood stars, Mr Bose said: “This is a government of thieves. Growth of Saradha business was increased significantly during Trinamul regime with the help of its leadership. Once they portrayed ‘symbol of honesty’. Now they are portraying “we are all thieves’, during their march, by displaying placards. People have never witnessed such a contrasting picture before.” “As a result, Mr Madan Mitra, state transport and sports minister, is afraid of the CBI,” he added. “Tollywood’s young stars were forced to join the rally yesterday. They participated to ensure their livelihood. Had they not joined they would have faced problem to manage role in film industry,” Mr Bose said. Reacting to recovery of ten posters of the terror outfit Jamiat group from Purulia district Mr Biman Bose said: “The police should take steps properly as preventive measures.” The Left Front chairman did not hesitate to criticise on the issue of burning ghat in Siliguri, and deferment of elections of Siliguri Municipal Corporation and Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad. “Trinamul Congress does not want to conduct elections of SMC and SMP. It does not believe in democracy. Now we need to launch a drive to recover democracy,” Mr Bose said, He added, “Paying no heed to the people’s opinion Trinamul wants to set up crematorium forcefully. But discussion with the people is a must before implementing any project.” ‘Trinamul gave maximum publicity to BJP rally’: CPI(M) feels that Trinamul Congress itself has given maximum publicity to the BJP for its much-debated rally in the city tomorrow by engaging the state government in an unnecessary exercise which ultimately did not succeed. “BJP did not have to labour much for the publicity of the partys sunday rally, thanks to the Trinamul Congress governments prolonged exercise to prevent the saffron party from holding the meeting at the place it had preferred and that was enough publicity in favour of the BJP instead, CPI(M) MP Md Selim said. Stating that the Trinamul Congress has provided enough impetus to the BJP rally, Md Selim said it was a known fact that the Trinamul Congress was accused of bringing in BJP in West Bengal which it is opposing now.
