Bioarchaeology Field School in Petra, Jordan! Come join us in Petra in summer, 2014! Students will spend 6 weeks (June 26 – August 2, 2014) learning archaeological field techniques as part of the Petra North Ridge Project, a joint North Carolina State University/East Carolina University excavation at the UNESCO World Heritage site of Petra. The ECU field school is geared for students interested in bioarchaeology, and the NCSU field school for students interested in Roman archaeology. Bioarchaeology Field School – East Carolina University Students registering through ECU Study Abroad will be involved in the excavation of 1st century A.D. rock-cut tombs in Petra and get hands-on experience excavating and analyzing human skeletal remains. Students also will learn methods for archaeological field recording and documentation and artifact processing and conservation. Archaeological experts working in the region will give lectures throughout the project, and on weekends students will have the chance to explore Jordan’s amazing cultural and archaeological heritage. Courses: ANTH 4201: Mortuary Archaeology (3 credits); ANTH 4203 Bioarchaeological Field Methods (3 credits) Project Dates: June 26 – August 4, 2014 Cost: $3440 (estimated) which includes: application fee ($75), tuition, accommodation and meals in Petra, insurance, unlimited entrances to the Petra Archaeological Park.
