Birdman was nominated for best screenplay and best picture, and Emma Stone was nominated for Best Supporting Actress. I thought it was well done overall, (cinematography, acting) except I was frustrated by Emma Stones lines, SHUT UP!!! EVERYTHING SMELLS LIKE KIMCHI. I dont think there was any point to the lines - did it add to the story? I guess it showed shes emotional and evidently holds prejudice towards Asians? There were 3 Asian actors cast by my count - a translator - and a Japanese journalist who was excited about the prospect of Birdman 4 speaking in an exaggerated accent. When you pair this with the fact that other Oscar winning films (Im not even going into films pre-2000s) went out of their way to write in lines ridiculing Asian characters, (The Departed - which was an adapted screenplay from Internal Affairs, a Hong Kong film), the fact that so many Asian stories have been recast with white characters, along with other points from the status below, I hope you can see why I would be frustrated. #birdman #emmastone #oscarnominations #oscarnoms
