Bite the Ballot’ is a grass-roots organisation that aims to inspire and engage young people in politics and increase the youth vote. In the 2010 General Election, only 44% of 18-24 year-olds voted. Bite the Ballot is concerned about the effects of this youth disengagement. Bite the Ballots latest initiative has seen them partner with both the National Union of Students and local authorities across the country to employ young people as community organisers in each area. These organisers work locally to motivate their peers to engage in democracy and register to vote. Wiltshire is part of this exciting national pilot and has a great organiser called Rosa Martyn. Rosa will be working with the electoral services team and the voice and influence team over the next year to motivate young people to take part in a range of activities and promote voting. She is always looking for new ways to meet young people so if you are running an event or have an idea, please contact her on [email protected] or call on 07551 157354
