Black actress Stacey Dash criticized Oprah for the comparison and then quoted a line from Malcolm X: “If you aren’t careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.” As I’ve mentioned before, there is a lot of sympathy among whites when it comes to issues in black communities across America. But that sympathy is being tested when high profile blacks continue to stir up the racial pot by claiming that it’s all about race. There is greater crime among blacks. Most of it is black-on-black crime. In some cases, as we’ve seen the past few months, there’s been a lot of black on white crime. These stories don’t get much national attention because there is no political capital to be gained. How can black voters get stirred up by stories of young black men killing other young black men or three black teenagers shooting a white college student “for the fun of it”? People should be judged by their actions, not their skin color. That goes for whites and blacks. Racism, bigotry, and prejudice come in various colors.
