Blanche TheChiweenie is getting close to having my grandpuppies so I took her with me to my drs appt yesterday. I had her in a neat little carrier that zips up and has a dark mesh top and sides but I threw her little blankie on top so no one would immediately KNOW what was in there. So a patient that was maybe 50 or so was there and her elderly mother was with her and noticed Blanche and started asking questions. I explained that because she is so close and already getting uncomfortable that I was nervous about leaving her home alone. The mother wanted to see Blanche and after the second time of asking if it was a boy or girl and how old, I realized she had Dementia. So the nurse came out to call a patient and saw Blanche and assured me she was fine to be there. The patient with her mother offered to let Blanche sit with her Mother and that it would give her joy to do so. I thought why not. I got called back to see my doctor and left Blanche with her. When I came back out to the waiting room (I have to wait a few mins for them to print my Rx), I leaned down to check on Blanche and the lady looked at me strangely and pulled Blanches carrier to her. Hmm. I waited a few mins and then leaned over to comfort Blanche because she began pawing at the carrier. The lady looks at me again and pulls Blanche closer to her AGAIN! So I waited again. Then the nurse called name to check out. When I leaned over once again and this time I went for the carrier to pick it up, this Lady grabbed it from me!! I thought Oh goodness, how am I gonna tell this sweet lady that has forgotten that the dog she is watching (and talking to as if she was hers) is NOT her dog but is in fact, MY dog? I just smiled and said Maam...she is mine Im the one that asked you to watch her. She looked shocked but said OH and then let go of the carrier. It was sweet and sad all at the same time because there were others watching and listening and I prayed that I had not embarrassed her...I quickly prayed as I was gathering my stuff!! The nurse just smiled and came to help me gather Blanche and my stuff. All I could think was I am so glad Momma did not get to that point where others saw her and that God knew she had so much pride and never wanted to be seen like that. I miss her so much! She was never a dog person but fell in love with my babies and she would have wanted one of my grandpuppies.
