Blessed Miguel Agustin Pro,S.J. 1891-1927 Martyr of Mexico Clowning for Christ Even in his youth, Miguel was known for his humor, antics and theatrical skills. He sang well. He played pranks on people. He doodled and drew cartoons. He loved to mimic his classmates and teachers. He joined the Jesuits but had to leave Mexico and continue his studies abroad because of the Catholic persecution in his country. He came back as an ordained priest, volunteering to serve his people despite great danger and difficulty. He secretly celebrated the sacraments and ministered to the people by wearing many disguises: as a postman, street cleaner, businessman, laborer, etc. He was finally caught, arrested, accused of false charges and shot to death on Nov 23,1927. His last words were: Viva El Cristo Rey! (Long Live Christ the King!) Let us pray that, we, too, like Padre Pro, may learn to use our gifts and abilities, even our humor and laughter, to serve others and God. May we learn to not take ourselves too seriously. May our choices and actions give life and joy to all! Blessed Miguel Agustin Pro,SJ, pray for us! Happy Fiesta, Xavier School G6H and G10A! Luceat Lux! +AMDG
