Blind Football Stars at AAMI Park A group of blind and vision - TopicsExpress

Blind Football Stars at AAMI Park A group of blind and vision impaired children had the opportunity to participate in a small-sided football match during half-time of Melbourne Heart v Adelaide United on Sunday 1 December 2013. Blind Sports Victoria Senior Project Manager Murray Turner negotiated the opportunity with Melbourne Heart Football Club to coincide with celebrations surrounding International Day of Disability and to promote vision impaired (blind) football to the wider community. The children that participated in the event had completed Blind Sports Victoria’s six week Junior Soccer Development Program coordinated by BSV volunteer David Connolly from Social Goal and Preston Lions Football Club’s Zivko Kolevski. The program was aimed at providing an introduction to vision impaired (blind) football, focusing on developing the football skills of the participants in a fun, safe, inclusive and relaxed environment. Participants were also able to develop other skills that are a common part of sport, including teamwork, communication, and sportsmanship, while promoting an active and healthy lifestyle. Participation at half-time of an A-League match was the culmination of the program with the children playing on the same piece of turf as the professionals. Each child was very appreciative of this exciting opportunity and loved every minute of their time on the pitch. Blind Sports Victoria would like to thank all those involved in making the program a great success in particular David Connolly (Social Goal), Tom Bevan (Social Goal) Zivko Kolevski (Preston Lions Juniors Coordinator) Zivko Kolevski (under 13 boys coach), Darren Moyle (Guide Dogs Victoria), Koji Kurashima (visitor from Japan who is a blind soccer participant and manager in Tokyo), Andrew McHugh (Darebin City Council) and all our valuable volunteers, for their support and being part of this exciting program.
