Blood Donation Camp Today In a unique initiative to observe the National Blood Donation Day, RCC will organise a voluntary blood donation camp on Wednesday. Actor Apoorva Bose will be the chief guest of the function, to be organised by Terumo Penpol Ltd in association with ‘Save A Rupee, Spread A Smile’, All-Kerala Blood Donors Society and Trivandrum Club. The camp will be from 9 am to 2 pm at Trivandrum Club. Actor Mani Kuttan is also expected to attend the event as a donor. Dr C S B Nair, Consultant (R&D), will preside over the function. It will be followed by various events like kite flying, slogan competition and stage shows. As part of the campaign, awareness sessions will be organised in schools and colleges on the importance of voluntary blood donation. Materials on blood donation will be distributed at super markets, railway stations and bus stations. School students were encouraged to recruit voluntary blood donors through a contest, named ‘Buddy for Life’, which was organised by Terumo Penpol for schools. The students visited shops and establishments urging people to take part in the blood donation campaign. They put up posters and staged street plays for the noble cause. Cotton Hill Girls School with 105 donors and Holy Angels ISC School with 75 donors topped the contest. There will be a kite-flying event involving students from the city schools and colleges. The session will begin with a presentation on the history of kite dynamics, tradition, culture and research and developments of kites. After the workshop, kite materials of different shapes and colours will be distributed to the participants. Students who are interested can participate in the workshop and write a blood donation message on the kite they make. A slogan competition for high school and higher secondary school students is also being planned. ENS
